We certainly hope you don't have an emergency while enjoying yourself on Hilton Head Island , but if there is some type of problem, we want you to be prepared.
- Depending on the duration of your vacation abroad, pack sufficient medicines to meet any specific needs of your family members. You may need to bring along your family’s medical information, prescription medications etc.
- Inform your trusted relatives and friends of your itinerary so that you can be contacted for emergencies. Once you arrive, it’s important to let a non-traveling family member know your actual room number, resort name, and local telephone number.
- You should keep credit card company’s name and telephone number in a safe place in the event you loose your card while on vacation. If you need to charge a payment when traveling, it is a good idea to always use a credit card versus a debit card. You will have more protection against unauthorized charges and your actual cash funds will remain untouched.
- Weather alerts are common on Hilton Head. The National Weather Service operating out of Charleston, SC will launch an immediate advisory on the Weather Channel in the event of a threat of inclement weather. If a dangerous storm is suspected, local cable channels are typically interrupted with scrolling message alerts.

These signals will activate occasionally with traffic alerts for Beaufort County concerning auto-accidents, delays, and weather conditions. You can also view the local traffic cameras at www.hiltonheadtraffic.com.
